The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) focuses on the quality of continuing education and training programs. IACET evolved from a national task force on Continuing Education in 1968. IACET is the organization authorizing Continuing Education Units (CEU) for classrooms across the nation.
In response to distance learning and non-traditional learners, IACET has developed "Distance-Learning Guidelines to help developers of distance and online learning to apply the IACET Standard to their specific situation." This doesn't change or lower the standards, but rather assist distance learning organizations apply the standards to a different learning environment.
As distance learning continues to evolve and expand in popularity, it is important that a method for measuring the varied curriculum be standardized to ensure quality distance education.
