Microsoft Office User Specialist Master Instructor (MOUS Master Instructor)

Additionally, trainer must pass MOUS tests in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access & Outlook. Pricing for those tests was unavailable on Microsoft's web site. An e-mail from support services (on 3/02) stated pricing varies but runs about $89.00 per test ($445.00 for all MOUS tests).

Additional costs may be incurred to attend a Train-the-Trainer workshop or to obtain additional certification (see Trainer must demonstrate ability)

No. Once you receive certification in a specific program (Office 97, Office 2000, etc.) your certification in that program is permanent. However, as new Microsoft products are released, you will probably want to update your MOUS certifications.

MOUS Master Instructors must also meet one of the following certifications:

  • A diploma or transcript indicating you have satisfied the requirements for a teaching or training degree, diploma, or certification from an accredited educational institution.
  • Written verification from your current or past employer on the company's letterhead that you have two or more years of experience delivering training on Microsoft Office desktop programs.
  • A certificate indicating you have successfully completed a Microsoft approved presentation skills or Train-the-Trainer course.
  • An instructor completion certificate from any of the following vendors: Caldera, Certified Internet Webmaster, Cisco Systems, Citrix, Lotus, Microsoft, Novell, Oracle, or Santa Cruz Operation

Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT)

$400 fee for joining and renewing. Trainer must also be certified in one of Microsoft's other products (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator). Pricing for those tests was unavailable on Microsoft's web site.

MCT are also required to obtain a certain number of Continuing Education Credits (CEC) each year.

  • Attend a Microsoft Course at a Microsoft CTEC lasting at least 3 days. Must attend within 12 months of MCT application

If you are a new trainer

  • Provide a certificate indicating you have successfully completed a Microsoft approved presentation skills or Train-the-Trainer course.

  • Provide a certificate from one of the following vendors:
